Tenkara Universal Rods 6:4 Light and 7:3 Medium-Light Action

Tenkara is the traditional Japanese method of fly-fishing, which uses only a rod, furled or level line, tippet and a fly. The joy of Tenkara fishing is the simplicity.
Universal Tenkara rods are the most powerful type of Tenkara rod series. They feature the best characteristics combining the power and strength of Hera rods and extreme flexibility and sensitivity of Carbon Pole rods with the supreme casting ability, exceptional fighting capabilities and the simplicity of Tenkara rods. They are truly universal rods making it quite possible to win a hardest fight with even the biggest monster. Catching big fish with the Tenkara Universal rod is challenging and very much fun.

This chart compare the Actions of Universal Tenkara rods HAMACHI-4505 (Light 6:4 Action), UNAGI-4505 (Light 7:3 Action) and Traditional Tenkara rod KASUGO-4509 (Light 6:4 Action). It could help you to choose the right rod which will bring you large amount of catches and a huge amount of great emotions. More great emotions - longer and healthier is your life.

Tenkara Universal Rods are the latest revolution for most Tenkara fly fisherman. They were developed having 2011 Tenkara Rod SHIMANO-Mainstream-ZE-40-45 in mind. Longer and more powerful than traditional Tenkara rods, Universal rods allow anglers to cast farther, mend easier, and better control a drifting fly and as a result help catch more fish. And they're the same as traditional Tenkara rods are very easy to use. With a couple basic casts, you can land a bigger fish such as Steelhead Trout, Atlantic Salmon, Common Carp, Largemouth Bass or even big Striped Bass. If you love Tenkara fishing and want to try it to the next level, for larger fish, the Universal Tenkara rod is that next step. Once you start, it will be part of your life forever.
The most obvious benefit is you can cover a lot more of water with Universal than with traditional Tenkara rods. You can really throw fly line much farther, which means you can get down deep and cover an entire run or pool, and this is extremely important for saltwater anglers. You can fish in larger rivers, streams, lakes, bass ponds, or going to the ocean after a striped bass the line can vary depending on its size, weight, the number of flies being cast and the total distance of the intended cast to match the hatch or attract fish or species bigger than trout.
Universal Tenkara rods while used for Tenkara style fishing can accommodate larger and heavier weighted flies due to their heavier line configurations. It is also quite possible to use the bait utilized by most long pole fishers with these rods. In this manner flies can be cast using longer and stronger rods and still maintain the ease and simplicity of traditional Tenkara fishing.
Another great benefit is your ability to control the speed of the fly with much more ease than you can with a traditional rod. Controlling fly speed, slowing down the fly, controlling the drift and mend is crucial, especially in cold water, in mid-winter, or late spring when snow and slush cover the rocks. Fish metabolism is down and fish are logy. You need to put the fly right by the fish's nose continuing until you get a strike. The slow, tantalizing drift puts the fly in front of the fish longer and is often a key to rousing a fish from its lie.
Universal rods are extremely light, very flexible and powerful and able to get line out there farther with a good spine and ability to load. This advance makes them easier to cast. They are so light that you can use them all day, hours and hours without arm fatigue. They required less energy out of you to cast but they have all the power to load up and throw even heavy line. And 12 feet rod throws line as well as 15 foot rod, often even better, because of the balance. These rods have a perfect balance of lighter weight, power, and length.
Universal rods are great for nymphing. The perfect dead drift you have following nymph along, mending as you go, is necessary for successful fishing Steelheads can be carried over to fishing with nymph for big Brown Trout, Rainbow or Bull Trout. You can go along and just flip a nymphing rig to any tail out, gut or riffle with a simple roll cast. You've got unbeatable control of its drift or sweep.
Tenkara Universal rods could be comparable to most light rods used in cone pole fishing and in fly-fishing and are considered slow action, or soft action rods.

Tenkara Action describes how many bottom sections are stiffer and how many tip sections are more flexible when pressure is put on the tip of the rod. It shows how much the rod can bend and how quickly it can return to its neutral position. The construction material and construction method of a rod affects the stiffness of the blank, the blank's ability to react and therefore its action. Flexibility and Medium Action allows you to see the most delicate and sensitive fish bites. Power helps you actually fight the big fighter and land it much quicker that with other rods.
'L' - Light - 6:4 means 6 bottom parts are stiffer and 4 tip sections more flexible. Rods are more sensitive and feel more precise when casting, it is great large, 2-4kg fish.
'ML' - Medium Light - 7:3 indicates 7 bottom sections are stiffer and 3 tip sections more flexible. Rods are stiffer, have more precise and more powerful when casting, it is great for a larger, 4-6kg and even bigger fish with some experience.
Tenkara Rod Action Index

You can choose the length of the rod based on the places where you will fish. Longer length allows you to fish in a wide area of the stream, on the other side of the stream or allow you to reach a longer distance without changing the fishing spot. Longer rods will give you better leverage over the line and the fly and require smaller movement by angler to set the hook for effective striking. Using a longer rod will also give you a huge advantage when playing fish, keeping it away from snags. Longer rod allows you to shoot line closer to the fish, it also allows you to make a better presentation of your fly, getting the fly to the fish more effectively and helping you to catch more fish.

    Braided Loop Connector.

Braided Loop Connector, a piece of braided monofilament line hollow braided tube at one end and looped on the other. Insert at least 30 mm of fly line into the braided loop connector. Slide retaining sleeve into position covering end of braid, ensuring that the sleeve is a tight fit secure. Grip sleeve and pull hard on the leader. You can secure it with a small section of heat shrink tubing over the connector to keep the line from sliding out. To remove leader, grip fly line and push retaining sleeve and leader from line.
These are high strength, very handy, easy to use, work well, and the simplest, most convenient way to connect fly line and transparent leader. Great for attaching shooting tapers, lead heads, backing and leaders without avoiding the trouble of tying a new knot should you break your leader. What is a Tenkara Fishing?

Tenkara fishing has become very popular around the world in the last few years. Much of the credit for this popularity must be given to their simplicity, accuracy in casting and light-weight which enable going to the stream with only a rod, furled or level line, a spool of tippet, a small box of favorite flies, a pair of nippers and a small landing net. Tenkara rods are extremely simple to set up, lines are attached either by a slip knot or hitch to the lillian string that extends from the tip of the Tenkara rod, and tippets are attached to the end of the Tenkara line.
Traditionally, Tenkara in Japan is used on smaller free flowing mountain streams that are not surrounded by a lot of bushes and trees. These streams tend to be faster than lowland streams, and thus the fish must react quicker in taking a fly. While fishing in these smaller freestone mountain streams the longer length of the Tenkara rod and a light line choice enables the Tenkara fisher to cast the fly and then hold most if not all the line off the water surface so that the drift of the fly can be drag free and often held across the stream all the way to the other side normally inaccessible to a regular fly rod and line user. This is due to heavier line being pulled by gravity underneath the tip of the rod toward the caster resulting in the line being dragged across the water surface which in turn drags the tippet and the attached fly.

When fishing with Tenkara rods in less traditional settings such as larger rivers, streams, lakes, bass ponds, or going to the ocean after a striped bass the line can vary depending on its size, weight, the number of flies being cast and the total distance of the intended cast to match the hatch or attract fish or species bigger than trout. Some Tenkara fishers like to fish and have successfully fished with line-tippet combos out to 40 ft or even to 100 ft, but this is not traditional Tenkara fishing.
For such cases Universal Tenkara rods, which are longer, a little heavier and more suitable for Tenkara style fishing in much wider settings allowing traditional and non-traditional Tenkara fishing are the best choice. These rods while used for Tenkara style fishing can accommodate larger and heavier weighted flies due to their heavier line configurations. It is also quite possible to use the bait utilized by most long pole fishers with these rods. In this manner flies can be cast using longer and stronger rods and still maintain the ease and simplicity of traditional Tenkara fishing.
Part of the joy of Tenkara fishing is the simplicity. The ability to go to the stream, larger rivers, lakes, ponds, or ocean with only a rod, furled or level line, a spool of tippet, a small box of favorite flies, a pair of nippers, and some hemostats can be very addictive. Some may choose a small landing net but many do not. Most Tenkara fishers don't even use fly floatant, and because of the long rod reach even hip waders are often left behind. Tenkara fishing is a popular method of catching fish whether you are fishing in freshwater or saltwater. They can be used to catch virtually any fish.

    How to land a fish.

To land a small fish you just need simply raise the rod high to slide fish gently into landing net range. Catching big fish is always very challenging especially with the light tackle. Fighting the large fish is very enjoyable and requires a lot of patience and some knowledge. With a larger fish you will need to follow to a rhythm dictated by the fish, you must keep your rod low, at 45 degrees or less to avoid breaking tip or top sections. Lifting the tip straight up will just encourage the fish to fight harder and to start swimming off at high speed. Try to use sideways pressure, moved rod with the fish, follow the fish movements and kept the rod angle low. Getting the fish from the bottom into open water is a winning half of the battle and once you've moved it away from any danger areas, such as reeds ringing an island, you can just keep applying steady pressure until the fish tires. Be patient; just let the fish tire itself and wait until it comes up and takes a gulp of air and then gently slide it over your landing net.

Take a good care of your rod.

Never lift your catch, always play with the fish and use landing net to land it. Never raise your rod high with the large fish, keep your handle angle at about 45 degrees or less. Always extend and insert telescopic sections very gently, try do not extend them too forcibly, try to keep it off the ground to avoid dirt getting into the joints. Wipe it clean with a cloth before taking it down so you don't jam dirt into the joint, rinse rod with freshwater after using it in saltwater as soon as you can. Always remember to take a good care of your rods and they will work for you for a very long time and will bring you large amount of catches and a huge amount of great emotions. More great emotions - longer and healthier is your life.
